Major Changes With Meditation

Meditation is a lifelong process. Give it a try. As you get deeper and more disciplined into the process, you’ll get deeper and more disciplined in your mind and life.

Meditation changes everything you thought you knew about who you are. The process of meditation cleans you and dissolves all traces of your ego. You ego is merely programming. It has been given to you by society, by your parents, your teachers, your friends and so on. Your ego is not your true self but it is a layer of illusion. It is not necessarily a bad thing… Your ego has evolved within you to keep you from feeling your feelings, or from facing unresolved issues or because you feel protected behind the curtain of your personality…It helps you feel special.

Your ego is kind of like a defense mechanism but where we get into trouble is when we identify with it and think that that’s who we truly are. It is not. You are, in fact, pure consciousness, pure awareness, infinite potential. Ego limits you to this form, this personality, this realm of existence. It does not allow you to go any further into higher states of awareness. So, to progress spiritually, one must face themselves, understand their ego and the inner-workings of their mind, see it clearly for what it actually is and then move past it. Once you detach from the perceived version of yourself that you have always known, you will discover your eternal nature. You are Sat-Chit-Ananda; Pure, consciousness, bliss…One with the all. How can you be limited to your body? Your profession? Your familial role? Your marital status? The kind of car you drive? Whether you are considered beautiful or ugly? These things are not you! They are illusions of maya and the only way to see the illusion for what it really is you must meditate.

Imagine having a beautiful house that you never cleaned. Although beautiful, it would have dust built up in the corners, dirty dishes in the sink, papers piled high, a layer of grime on everything… it would be filthy and it’s beauty would not be noticed under all the clutter. What’s the solution to this? Clean it up! Pick up a broom and a mop and get to work! This is the same situation with our mind. It has years and maybe even lifetimes of clutter and illusion, unresolved emotions and untamed thoughts. The only way to remedy this is to meditate. Meditation allows the muddy waters of your mind to become still and calm, allowing everything to settle so you can see things for what they truly are. It is not a short-cut to bliss, although once you clean up your consciousness, you will feel blissful and free. But the objective of meditation is to allow you to clean out what you no longer need, what no longer serves you and to begin to operate from a place of Truth instead of a place of illusion. This will enable you to face life calmer, clearer and more in control because you will be fully present. Most of our thoughts are not true, they are just our perceived version of what is going on; a judgment or personal reflection. Once you shine light onto who is thinking the thoughts; Everything changes! Majorly changes!

Sound good?
Great!
Here’s some tips to get you started:
  1. Make meditation a part of your everyday life. Morning or night or both, devote as much time as you can to sitting quietly and watching your breath. If it’s 10 minutes, good! If it’s 20 minutes, even better! Whatever you can do, just do it! The fact that you show up with the intention to heal is enough.
  2. Breathe deeply through your nose, hold the breath gently for a moment and then slowly release it. Keep doing this and when your mind wanders, don’t judge yourself, don’t get frustrated and don’t entertain the thoughts, just come back to your breath; lovingly, compassionately, patiently. The more times you bring your attention back to your breath the more control you gain over your awareness. Keep doing it!
  3. Do not make meditation a chore! Your meditation practice is actually you maintaining a loving relationship with yourself. Imagine if you were married but you never took the time to speak to your husband or wife, never took the time to listen to what they had to say, nothing…. What kind of relationship is that? It’s not. Well, it’s the same thing with your Higher Self… How can you expect any kind of connection when you don’t take the time to connect? Meditation is taking the time to Love yourself, to connect with yourself and to heal yourself.
